Fencing and gates
I fit new fences, replace panels, repair posts and hang garden gates. Closeboard, feather-edge, lap panel, picket and trellis are among the types I work with. The supports matter as much as the panels, so I check the posts before recommending a repair. Concrete posts and gravel boards keep the timber clear of wet soil.
A gate that catches or drops may need its supports and hinges looking at together. You can ask about a gate on its own or a whole fence run. See fencing and gate repairs for what to send when asking for a quote.
Decking
I build new decks and repair existing ones, including replacing boards, repairing the frame, sanding, staining and non-slip treatments. Steps, balustrades and built-in seating can form part of a new deck. If your deck feels springy or has soft boards, I look at what is underneath before suggesting a surface repair.
The decking page shows one garden from strip-out through membrane and joists to the finished boards. It explains when a local repair may be enough and when a rebuild needs discussing. Send photographs taken from a safe position.
Patios, driveways and paths
I lay patios, repair driveways and relay flags that have sunk or started to rock. Slab replacement, repointing and edging are also work I take on. The ground, full bed, levels and drainage need attention before the finish goes down. If existing flags are sound, they may be worth lifting and reusing.
See patios and driveway repairs for the genuine path comparison. Tell me the approximate size, where the problem is and how materials can reach the garden. Those details help me understand the job before I visit.
Joinery and household jobs
I take on doors, skirting boards, architrave, shelving, built-in storage and bespoke carpentry. Smaller jobs include flat-pack assembly, curtain poles, draught-proofing, lock changes, picture hanging and furniture repairs. You can ask about several small jobs together rather than trying to make each one a separate enquiry.
Describe the result you want and send a photograph if it helps. You do not need to know the technical name for the repair. I explain whether it is something I can take on and agree the scope with you. If you already have materials, mention that when asking. My work also includes fireplace surrounds, shelving and timber cladding around a lodge deck. I take on the joinery and do not do gas connections.
Brickwork and gardening
Garden walls, pointing, brick repairs, steps and brick planters are part of my brickwork. I also take on garden clearance, turf laying, planting, hedge trimming, raised beds and seasonal maintenance. Tell me what has changed or how you would like to use the space.
Where a garden job includes a fence, path or deck, mention the whole project. I can look at the parts together before writing the quote. The work photographs give you examples, and you can ask for photographs relevant to what you need.
Roofing and gutters
I repair roofs, work on membrane and battens, renew chimney flaunching, clear gutters and replace downpipes. Fascia and soffit work is included too. Tell me about ceiling marks, water spilling from gutters or anything that looks different from the ground. Please leave ladders and roof inspections for assessment.
The roofing and gutters page explains what to describe and shows the work underneath the roof tiles. I do not take on gas work, including gas appliance flues. If any part needs another trade, I will say so.
Free written quotes
I am based in Ingbirchworth near Penistone and work across the surrounding Yorkshire areas. I work alone, give a fixed written quote for most jobs and discuss changes before doing additional work. I clear up afterwards. Call or WhatsApp me, or use the form to describe what you need. Include your area and any access details so I can understand the practical side of your job.
